Snorkeling in Siquijor

While Siquijor is known for its diving, you don't need certification to explore its underwater world. The island has several excellent snorkeling spots with healthy coral reefs and abundant marine life just steps from shore.

Best Snorkeling Spots

1. Tubod Marine Sanctuary

The island's best snorkeling destination. Protected reef teeming with tropical fish, sea stars, and coral gardens. Entry steps and buoys make it beginner-friendly.

  • Entry fee: ₱50
  • Best for: All skill levels
  • What you'll see: Clownfish, parrotfish, sea cucumbers, vibrant coral

2. Salagdoong Beach

Beyond the cliff-jumping platforms, the reef here offers good snorkeling with less current than other spots.

3. Kagusuan Beach

Dramatic underwater rock formations and diverse fish life. Entry can be rocky - water shoes recommended.

4. Paliton Beach Reef

Shallow reef accessible from the beach. Good for beginners and families.

Marine Life to Spot

  • Clownfish - Living in their anemone homes
  • Sea turtles - Occasionally spotted near sanctuaries
  • Parrotfish - Colorful and common
  • Lionfish - Beautiful but keep your distance
  • Starfish & sea urchins - On the sandy bottom
  • Coral gardens - Both hard and soft coral varieties

Gear & Rentals

Rental Options

  • Marine sanctuaries often rent basic sets for ₱100-150
  • Hotels and dive shops rent higher-quality gear
  • Full sets (mask, snorkel, fins): ₱200-300/day

Bring Your Own

If you have your own well-fitting mask and snorkel, bring them! Proper fit makes a huge difference in your experience.

Snorkeling Tips

  • Reef-safe sunscreen: Regular sunscreen damages coral - use reef-safe alternatives
  • Don't touch: Look but don't touch coral or marine life
  • Swim with care: Avoid standing on or kicking coral
  • Morning sessions: Calmer water and better visibility
  • Stay hydrated: Sun exposure and swimming dehydrate you quickly
  • Buddy system: Don't snorkel alone, especially in new areas

Snorkeling vs. Diving

Can't decide between snorkeling and diving?

Choose Snorkeling If:

  • You're short on time
  • You don't want certification hassle
  • You're on a tight budget
  • You want flexibility to explore multiple spots

Consider Diving If:

  • You want to see larger marine life
  • You're interested in wall and deeper reefs
  • You have more time and budget
